Billie Eilish Parent Baird O'Connell was born December 18, 2001 to a creative family in Los Angeles. Her mother Maggie Baird is an actress and her father Patrick O'Connell is a musician.

Billy has an older brother, Finneas O'Connell (aged 21), who is also passionate about music and acting: he sings in the band The Slightlys and starred in the latest season of Glee. He now also writes songs for his sister.

Her parents decided to homeschool Billie so she never went to school which she doesn't regret. In her opinion, she got all the knowledge she needed at home.

At the age of eight, she joined the Los Angeles Children's Choir, and three years later she was writing her own songs.

In October 2015, Billie, who was 13 at the time, recorded the song Ocean Eyes (originally written by her brother for his band) and sent it to her choreography teacher, who helped her choreograph a dance to the song. Billie actually dreamed of a dance career, but in 2016 she suffered an injury and the dream had to be said goodbye.

A year later, the song was released as a debut single on SoundCloud, and the video, directed by Megan Thompson, was also unveiled on 24 March 2016. The video now has over 95 million views on YouTube. It was this song that made Billy famous.

A few months later, a dance version of this music video also appeared on YouTube, in which Ailish demonstrated her choreographic talent.

Following the success of the track and positive feedback from music critics, Ailish continued to release songs and in August 2017 her debut mini album Don't Smile at Me was released. She herself admitted that she and her brother enjoy becoming characters in their songs, and noted that they draw on their own experiences when writing them.

"We go through a lot together, so it's a kind of a mix of our feelings and experiences. Some of it is fiction, but some of the stories are true," - she said.

Brother Billy, for his part, confessed that he wrote songs for his sister that she would enjoy and empathize with.
